Even though Target Canada stores won’t open their doors until 2013, that didn’t stop Target from hitting the Canadian catwalks at Montréal Fashion Week last week.
As one of Canada’s most prestigious fashion events, Montréal Fashion Week (MFW) is the place to be in early September. Never one to miss out on a fashion fête, Target joined forces with Québec style icon Mitsou Gélinas to film on-the-ground coverage of shows, designers, events and more.
One of the best moments? When Target, Groupe Sensation Mode (the founders of MFW) and Fondation de la mode de Montréal announced the creation of the Target Emerging Designer Award—a unique program providing an up-and-coming designer with a $25,000 grant and the opportunity to create an exclusive collection that will be sold at Target stores throughout Québec.
As part of the Designers Fund, the Target Emerging Designer Award grant will be used by the winner to produce a full-scale fashion show at Montréal Fashion Week—a decisive step for emerging designers looking to kick-start their designer resumes.
“Just like Montréal, Target is all about style and design,” stated John Morioka, senior vice president, Merchandising, Target Canada. “We’re proud to invest in the future of local designers and look forward to a long-term relationship with Montreal’s fashion community.”
