What is your holiday gifting philosophy?
Nate Berkus:People worry so much about who should get what and what’s the right amount to spend. I say put that aside. Think about what you love and what’s made your life better. The simple pleasures—like fresh towels and crisp sheets—are things that people tend to put off buying but everyone needs. When you pair something timeless with a wonderful note, you’re certain to have hit a home run at the holiday gathering.
How do you set the atmosphere for your holiday gathering?
Sabrina Soto: If you have a fireplace, bring focus to it by dressing the mantel with colorful accessories that will invite your guests to gather around it. Metallic accents are also big this holiday season–they’re elegant and stylish at the same time. The Threshold silver wreath is a perfect example and it complements any party style.
How can you keep home décor festive without being gaudy?
Nate Berkus: Successful holiday decor is all about editing. Just because you’ve got boxes and boxes of holiday decorations doesn’t mean you have to use them all. Pick the ones that make the holiday feel complete and then turn to metallics and greenery to finish off the look. I love a mantle that has white lights with pine garland, with just a few hurricanes and white candles woven in. Or a centerpiece that is a mixture of gold and silver mercury glass. Simple is always better in my book.
What can you do to make holiday entertaining stress free and give yourself more time to enjoy your guests?
Sabrina Soto: A guaranteed way to keeps guests happy is to greet them with drinks. Set up a drink station near the entryway with festive holiday cocktails. Target has delicious drink mixers packaged to look like ornaments—it’s the perfect final touch for a stylish holiday bar.
Nate Berkus: Preparation is key on party night. The goal is to ensure that the food is done and ready so you can spend time enjoying the guests, not slaving away in the kitchen. If it’s a seated dinner, seat people next to each other that you know will have plenty to talk about. And create your playlist early so your party music is a mix that gets everyone singing and dancing.
