In our exclusive video below, design blogger and style enthusiast Nicole Gibbons of So Haute explores New York City with designer Nate Berkus. What a lucky girl.
She was also the first person to get a look at the entire Nate Berkus Collection at Target—all 150 items! Nate stopped by her gorgeous Harlem apartment to see what she picked from the line and where it landed in her space with his Target exclusive collection (available Oct. 21). What an even luckier girl.

How would you describe the Nate Berkus Collection at Target?
NG: Nate’s collection for Target is so versatile. All of the pieces feel timeless and the color palettes can work in any space no matter what your decor style! The best part is that every thing is super affordable.
What is your design philosophy?
Nicole Gibbons: My philosophy on design is centered on a feeling rather than a particular look. I believe your home should always feel warm and welcoming. When I decorate I strive to achieve an effortless, lived-in space that exudes comfort and style.
How did you use Nate’s collection to spice up your space?
NG: I incorporated several of Nate’s pieces into my living room. On my desk, I replaced my old lamp with one of Nate’s that has a bold black shade—it totally changed the vibe. I swapped out my rug for the Nate Berkus for Target braided jute rug, and it added so much rich texture. I also re-styled some of my tabletop surfaces such as my coffee table and dining area console, and created new vignettes using trays, vases and photo frames. It wasn’t about producing a dramatic makeover—I made smaller updates that had a huge impact!
Do you have a favorite piece from the collection?
NG: I love every single piece, but a few favorites are the jute rug, the hex vase, the chevron urns and the nombre tray.
What was your favorite part about filming this video?
NG: We shot for two days and I enjoyed every minute, but a highlight was definitely having Nate over to my apartment to check out his products in action!
What do you love most about home design?
NG: I love the idea of being surrounded by beautiful things that make you happy. When you fill your home with things you love, it will elevate your mood and enhance your life in ways beyond measure.
When did your passion for design come from?
NG: My mother was a decorator so I grew up watching her work and was surrounded by so many examples of good design from an early age. These experiences have given me the opportunity to cultivate my eye throughout the course of my lifetime and over the years I’ve developed an intense passion for design and all things home—whether it’s decorating, food or entertaining.
What do you love most about your home?
NG: For me, my apartment is a serene refuge from the hustle and bustle of New York City. I truly love coming home each day.
If your apartment could talk, what would it say?
NG: My apartment is so personal to me, and is the most peaceful and comfortable space ever. So if it could talk it would say, “Have a seat, enjoy a glass of wine, put your feet up and relax!”
When you shop Target, what department do you head to first?
NG: Aside from the amazing home department, I always seem to get lost in the beauty aisles! I also frequent the cleaning aisles, the grocery section and, without fail, I always end up in the baby and toy aisles picking up goodies for my nieces and nephews…and before I know it I’ve spent an hour and a half in Target.
